About the Event

The Santa Cruz Symphony’s Classical Series Concert 1: Scheherazade opened the 2025–2026 season with a night of breathtaking orchestral storytelling. Featuring Jonah Kim (cello) and Artist in Residence Nancy Zhou (violin), the performance brought to life Rimsky-Korsakov’s vivid interpretation of One Thousand and One Nights alongside masterpieces by Mascagni and Elgar.

Before the concert, the Season Opening Street Party transformed the Civic Auditorium’s front plaza into a vibrant Middle Eastern-themed celebration, complete with live music, dancing, food trucks, and community energy leading up to showtime.
